Disability bathrooms
Everything you need to know about disability bathrooms.
If you or somebody you know is looking to have a new disability bathroom to make life that little bit easier then here's some top tips!
The most obvious is to remove the bath (if applicable) and install a low level anti slip shower tray or a wet-room - Yes! products have evolved and anti slip shower trays are a great option for disability bathrooms, they come pre installed with a gripping textured layer of resin which make it a lot less likely that slipping accidents can happen. Wet-rooms are another great option but there's a greater deal of work involved than your anti-slip shower tray and can therefore add extra cost to the disability bathroom renovation.
Grab bars - brilliant for giving something to hold onto to get into your new shower area, you also have the option to have additional grip on the handles.
Comfort height toilets are perfect if you struggle sitting on low toilets and are a lot easier to get on/off than your "bog" standard toilet (see what we did there? Haha).
Walk in showers - this is where you have just one piece of glass to stop water splashing out of the shower area, you don't have to open any doors to get in, you simply just walk in.
Wall hung basins can be set to a certain height for wheelchair users making it more accessible.
Infrared flush buttons for flushing the loo are now available - simply just wave your hand past the sensor and ta da! flush.
Push button or electric smart shower - if you struggle with turning knobs, you can now with the push of a button switch on the shower or go further and have a smart shower where you can turn on the shower before even entering the shower zone from the smart control electric panel.
Did you know? With having a new disability bathroom, if you claim disability allowance you're entitled to VAT relief on the total cost of the job! That includes: Labour, materials and the full bathroom suite!
For example: if the bathroom cost £10000.00 you'd only pay £8333.33 as the vat comes to a total of £1666.67.
There are no complicated forms to fill in or any vat inspectors to pay a visit, simply just a signature.
