You've just come out of the bathroom, come downstairs and noticed a patch on the ceiling thats just been painted too! 🙄
What do you do?
Firstly, if you think there is a constant leak, shut the water OFF
(Most stop taps are sited under the kitchen sink - if it's not there, check under the kitchen kick-boards, by the front door, in the garage or even by the boiler / cylinder), after you shut the water OFF, open the kitchen hot and cold taps (This will release water still in the system, which will relieve pressure in the pipework), Call a local plumber - They should be able to identify the issue.
If the leak only happens after you've:
Flushed the toilet
- Check to see if you can see any water around the back of the toilet pan.
If you see water around the back of the toilet it is most probably going to be the WC Pan connector, its rubber seals may have become damaged through general wear and tear or if its not that old / recently been changed, then it could be due to poor quality products, or worse, poor installation. - Any case, call a local plumber.
Had a shower
- Check in the shower area, does the water gather in any corners?, is silicone still in good condition?
Most cases we've seen with leaking showers, are normally due to poor installation, unfortunately.
Best thing to do, is avoid using the shower until a local plumber has identified the issue, Whether the be poor tiling or poor plumbing skills.
Had a bath
- Try to figure out whether the leak happens when the bath is full or whether the leak is happening when the bath is draining. (this will help the plumber)
If the bath leaks when you're in it, this could be an issue with the overflow or bath waste - call the local plumber and change the bath trap and overflow - as like the toilet pan connector, the rubber seals may have gone due to wear and tear.
If the bath leaks when its draining, it could be an issue with either the bath waste pipe or bath trap - call the local plumber, he should take a look under the bath (if it's accessible) to see if he can see anything leaking from the pipework or bath waste.
If it's the bath waste - as like the toilet pan connector, the rubber seals may have gone due to wear and tear.
"I've only brushed my teeth" - Used the basin
- This could again be due to faulty rubber seals, call the local plumber.
